It is further possible to use specific gases such as methanol to obtain a hydrophobic, negative charged surface for positively charged macromolecules (cytochrom C, ferritin). A post treatment with magnesium acetate provides a positively charged hydrophilic film, suitable for DNA molecule suspensions on filmed grids.
